Steve is a former Adams County Prosecutor
Steve is a former Deputy District Attorney in the 17th Judicial District, who stood up for victims, stood up to criminals, and stood for integrity and justice. Steve prosecuted a variety of case including car thefts, fraud, domestic violence, and even the most violent crimes.
Steve is leading the effort to fight overdose, opioids, fentanyl
Steve is leading the effort in Adams County to fight the opioid epidemic, prescription drug and overdoses and addiction. Specifically, Steve (1) established the Tri-County Overdoes Prevention Partnership, (2) created a statewide, bi-partisan framework for distributing opioid settlement dollars, (3) formed the Adams County regional effort to address the opioid crisis.

Steve is a collaborative leader in public safety
Steve has a reputation as a leader who can work with people from all areas of the community, from all political persuasions, and from all perspectives in the criminal justice system. For example, Steve was appointed by the governor to represent local governments on the Colorado Commissioner on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ) and serves on the Adams County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC).
Steve has a track record for funding criminal justice
Steve consistently supports investments in the criminal justice system, including but not limited to (1) additional deputies to make our streets safer in unincorporated neighborhoods, (2) additional prosecutors to take on tough cases, (3) expansions to the courthouse, (4) new crime lab for the sheriff's office.
Steve is making trails, parks, and open space safer
Steve supported establishing a new Adams County Park Ranger Service together with a Poverty Reduction effort to address homelessness by connecting folks to services AND cleaning-up/preventing unauthorized encampments in public parks and trails. These programs have been considered as a model for other local governments who see this approach as prioritizing safety while also exercising compassion.
